Over the last decade Lucy Stein's work has been preoccupied with the esoteric culture in West Cornwall and the numinosity of the sacred sites in the region, which she moved to on account of a residency with Tate St Ives. Her paintings, drawings, ceramics, and writings rework this research through the lens of psychoanalytic theory, literature and poetry, as well as through the history of British modernist painting from the region, particularly that made by women. Her first major institutional show in the UK "Wet Room" will take place at Spike Island in Bristol in May 2021.
